North Texans know how to throw a party. There always seems to be lots of reasons to celebrate in Amarillo. Whether it's a rodeo, a traveling antique show or just a good old fashioned block party, the locals and visitors alike look forward to taking a break from usual routines to enjoy the city's own brand of hospitality at one of these festivals.

Even though the people in Amarillo like to throw a good party, they like to give back with equal enthusiasm. That's what the
Center City Block Party is all about. Held every August, the event takes place in the downtown area of Amarillo. Music is definitely in the air, as five stages feature 25 bands throughout the seven hour event. Food vendors and attractions consistently attract large crowds, and the festival atmosphere not only keeps everyone in a great mood, it also helps to raise funds for Center City. Admission is $10 in advance and $15 at the gate.

The
Tri-State Expo is held every year in Amarillo and it includes a fair and rodeo to raise money for scholarships and other forms of giving to the area's youth. In keeping with its mission statement, the festival provides a wholesome, educational, cultural and recreational experience for area citizens by hosting the Tri-State Fair and Rodeo and other events to help strengthen the Amarillo economy. The event is held every fall, usually between late August to mid-September. Area youth are helped, fine animals and entertainment are showcased, and everybody wins with this Panhandle tradition that has been carried out since 1923.

Mel Phillips' Outdoor World Boat and RV Show gathers everything you need for great outdoor fun and brings it to you in the comfort of the Amarillo Civic Center. See the latest in boats, recreational vehicles, fishing, hunting, and even travel. Exhibitors travel from all over Texas and surrounding states to show off their wares, and spectators come from all over to see what's new as they begin to devise their recreational plans for the coming year. The event is usually held in late January or early February, so make plans to see all that's new at the Mel Phillips' Outdoor World Boat and RV Show!

The
Amarillo Farm and Ranch Show takes place every fall at the Amarillo Civic Center. The show features over 450 companies showcasing the latest agricultural equipment and the newest information through special presentations, workshops and seminars. Nearly 30,000 attendees from the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles attend the show, along with visitors from New Mexico, Colorado and Kansas. Everyone from farmers to ranch workers to businessmen who deal with farming and everything that goes with it, make it a point to be in Amarillo for this show.

The Peddler Show visits Amarillo's Civic Center twice a year. Every early spring and late fall, the show arrives with a wide selection of decorative items for the home, as well as clothes, perfumes, candles and other specialty items. In addition, there are some delicious food items for sale, like jalapeno peanut brittle and homemade jams and preserves.
